Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon

Asia’s biggest running event takes place in Mumbai on the third Sunday of the year. The 2016 edition will take place on January 17. The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is considered India’s premier running event and is definitely the biggest in terms of magnitude and participation. The prize money is a whopping $350,000, which means you are more than likely to be sharing the track with some marathon stars. That also makes it the richest marathon in India. From Bollywood celebrities to business tycoons to athletes – the SCMM sees participation from all kinds of runners. Besides the marathon, it also consists of a half marathon, a 6K Dream Run, a Senior Citizens Race (4.3 km), Champions with Disability run 2.4 km) and a DHL Corporate Champions relay.

Spice Coast Marathon
Qualify for the 2016 Boston Marathon with a finish at The Spice Coast Marathon, scheduled for November 15 this year. It’s one of the few official Boston Qualifier courses in India and takes participants through Kochi’s famed Spice Market, along the Arabian Sea coast, and other scenic locations in the historic city. The marathon has a timed check post, i.e. if a participant fails to cross the check post within a certain time, he or she will be automatically disqualified.

Airtel Hyderabad Marathon

The 42.2 Km point-to-point road race takes runners on a journey through Hyderabad, from the historical heart of the city to the modern technological metropolis at the far west end. Starting with a loop around the picturesque Hussain Sagar Lake, the runners run in front of Raj Bhavan, cross through Banjara Hills, the KBR Park, Jubilee Hills, before entering Hitech City, the IT District, the Financial District, and through the beautiful shaded campus of the University of Hyderabad to finally finish in the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli. Half marathon, 10K and 5K categories are also open. The 2015 edition took place at the end of August.

Kaveri Trail Marathon
Claimed as one of the toughest races in India by many, the Kaveri Trail Marathon is organized at Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary in Srirangapatna, Karnataka and comprises a 10K race as well as the Full and Half Marathons. In its 9th year now, the race attracts over 2000 runners from across the globe, including renowned names from the running world. Organized by Runners For Life, the marathon course is known for its scenic beauty, physical challenges and excellent support crew.

In its 6th year now, the Goa River Marathon is rated as the 5th Best Marathon in India, and registrations for the 2015 edition are currently ongoing. The marathon which is run alongside the famed Zuari river, is scheduled for December 13, and registrations close on December 10, 2015. As one of the premier running events in the country, the Goa River Marathon offers prize money for winners. Last year in the Half Marathon Open Category men and women winners won Rs.50,000 each, while 2nd position won Rs 25,000 each, and 3rd place finishers won Rs 15,000 each. In addition, the top Indian finishers in both men and women were awarded Rs 25,000. In the 10K run (men and women) winners were awarded Rs 15,000, followed by Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000 for the second, and third place respectively. The event also awards prizes for different age groups such as 45-55 years, 55-65 years and 65 plus.
