Despite heavy rains in some parts in August, the month comes with a massive list of marathons across several cities around the county, including the last leg of the Great India Run being held across 6 states in the country. Here’s our pick of some of the most exciting and upcoming races scheduled across India this month.

The Great India Run – Mumbai (August 4)
The Great Indian Run has seen elite runners from across India and the world making their way from Delhi to Mumbai – a distance of 1480 km. Apart from the marathon, the event also includes 5K fun runs across several cities to encourage local running populations. The last leg of this first-ever multi-city ultra marathon will conclude with the Mumbai 5K at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra-Kurla complex. Registrations for the event are still open.

The 7th Gurgaon Running and Living XC Half Marathon (August 7)
Organized by Running and Living, this popular running event has races in the Half Marathon, 10K and 5K categories. The runs start and finish near Club Florence on Golf Course Road Extension in Gurgaon. The 5k run is all on road and the 10km run ncludes some uphill running apart from the 5K trail. The half marathon includes an 8K trail in the Aravallis – scenic and tough. Due to the monsoons, the rougher paths and trails are likely to be full of puddles. A chip-timed race, this event is a qualifier for the ADHM and SCMM.

La Ultra The High (August 11)

The 7th edition of the La Ultra has three fairly straightforward categories—of 111 Km, 222 Km and 333 Km each. The route covers three passes where the peaks are close to 18,000 ft, and the course has an altitude variation between 11,000 ft and 17,700 ft. Oxygen levels can be as low as 40% of sea-level, and to top it off, race temperatures can vary between -10°C and -40°C.  In the past 6 years, 59 runners from 22 different countries have participated and 30 have finished. All three routes begin from Diskit Village in the gorgeous Nubra Valley.

HSR Freedom Run – Bangalore (August 15)
Organized by Basecamp Adventures and Kaagaz Foundation, the HSR Freedom Run will have 10K and 5K categories for both men and women as well as girls and boys under 15. The regn fee for 10K is INR 850, and INR 550 for the 5K; registrations are open until August 2. Only the 10K race will be chip-timed and all races will start from Freedom International School, HSR Layout.

TGS Moveit Marathon – Pune (August 21)
The Moveit Marathon, organized by The Golden Sparrow, a weekly newspaper in Pune, is now in its third edition now after marathons in March and June earlier this year. With categories including 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K runs, the event is aimed to promote and encourage fitness across all age groups. Organizers hope to create a fun, high-spirited atmosphere with zumba classes, yoga and musical events thrown in. Participants are also given an option to support one of several social causes through their runs.

Airtel Hyderabad Marathon – August 28
The 42.2 Km point-to-point road race takes runners on a journey through Hyderabad, from the historical heart of the city to the modern technological metropolis at the far west end. Starting with a loop around the picturesque Hussain Sagar Lake, the runners run in front of Raj Bhavan, cross through Banjara Hills, the KBR Park, Jubilee Hills, before entering Hitech City, the IT District, the Financial District, and through the beautiful shaded campus of the University of Hyderabad to finally finish in the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli. Registrations for the half marathon, 10K and 5K categories are also open till August 8.
