We didn’t just create FirstRun to get others to run; we are avid runners ourselves. And one person who really drives home this enthusiasm is Karthik Gowda, FirstRun’s Product Manager. A 29-year-old from Bangalore, Karthik started running seriously at the age of 15 and still makes it for 3-4 runs every week. His fitness goal in life is to remain healthy even as he grows older, something he thinks Indian people don’t follow. Here’s Karthik’s running story.
What do you love about running?
When running I can take out time for myself and stay fit as well. I can challenge himself physically and push it to the limits. Running gives me the opportunity to plan and organize my day and work to be done in advance. I feel refreshed and energetic throughout the day at work when I start the day with running.
What are your favourite running spots and what diet do you follow before a run?
Cubbon Park in Bangalore is my favorite running spot. It is surrounded by greenery and very quiet, which is perfect for a run. I eat 2 bananas 30 minutes before running & after the run, I have a breakfast of eggs or fruits.
What’s your most memorable running story?
I really cherish the memory of breaking my PB (personal best) and successfully running 10 km in just 46 mins. And this was in the midnight marathon organized by SBI, where I think I exceeded my own expectations.
What’s your running dream?
I want to remain injury free and want to manage running on different surfaces & environment. The ultra-marathon run in Ladakh is one of my dreams.
What advice do you have for new runners?
A running pal or a group is a great motivation and will help improve your performance. I started running with a running group in the past. Running with a group can help new runners learn from other’s mistakes and understand different running philosophies. It is also a good opportunity to get to know new people and socialize.
