This October, India is all set to witness the Olympia magic! Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend, an international bodybuilding competition that is held annually by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB), is one of the world’s biggest bodybuilding events that takes place every year. Though the Mr. Olympia will take place on the 14th-15th September in Las Vegas, the Olympia Amateur Series is one of the biggest bodybuilding championships for amateur bodybuilding athletes, globally.

The Olympia Amateur India will be open to all IBBFF (Indian Bodybuilding & Fitness federation) & IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness) registered competitors from India & other Asian countries to participate in this ground-breaking event. The contest will comprise of the following divisions:

  • Bodybuilding
  • Men’s Physique
  • Men’s Classic Bodybuilding
  • Women’s Bikini Fitness
  • Women’s Physique

The Olympia Amateur is scheduled to be held at at Bombay Exhibition Center on Friday, October 13, 2017.  It’s not often that amateur athletes get the opportunity to grace the same prestigious event as the likes of Kai Green, Varinder Singh Ghuman, Gennifer Strobo, Big Ramy, Asia Mendoza, Roelly Winklaar, and Marek Oley Olejniczak.

The best 5 overall winners in their respective categories will be given a pro card, which will make an athlete eligible to compete globally. This will also put them a step closer to the main Olympia stage, the world’s biggest professional bodybuilding championship. Here’s a look at the hopefuls who could win the pro card:

Siddhant Jaiswal

With a penchant for bodybuilding, as a child Siddhant would make a daily visit to the local ‘akhada’ to watch his seniors train. His passion and commitment towards the sport has won him the title of Mr. Aesthetic and Core king. Siddhant is the leading name in the IBBFF and IFBB Men’s Physique in the Athlete and Fitness Model category and has also previously participated in the Arnold Classic Amateur in 2015 and 2016. He has been following the Mr. Olympia International closely for his dose of training and technique to prepare for international competitions.

Deepika Chowdhary

Having had the opportunity to train with some of the biggies in the bodybuilding universe, Deepika Chowdhary is India’s first female Professional Figure Athlete and has represented the country in many competitions internationally. Her journey into the sport was initiated by Bombshell Fitness founder Shannon Dey, to whom Deepika credits her transformation from a skinny fat female to a professional athlete. She has won several international titles, which include the Gold in the IFBB Battle of the Beach and the Ft. Lauderdale Cup in 2014.

Manoj Patil

Maharashtra’s Manoj Patil ventured into bodybuilding at the age of 19 years with the Mr. Mumbai and even then managed to bag a gold. From there on he has gone to win many titles for IBBF, among which he was given the title of the Overall Champion at IBBF Mr. India Men’s Physique 2016 and also won the IBBF Maharashtra 2016 Men’s Physique. He has been training hard to compete in the Olympia Amateur India and will be giving a tough fight to the other contenders.

Pankaj Gajwani

Mocked for being underweight while growing up, Pankaj Gajwani has successfully managed to shut people up and become one of the key players in the Indian bodybuilding community. He is now a Jerai sponsored athlete and has won the Mr. UP Gold medal in the Men’s Physique category for IBBFF 2016 and had previously won the Mr. India 2016 in the same category for IBBFF.

The event is in collaboration with IHFF and Sheru Classic, and will also include an exquisite bodybuilding expo of some of the biggest brands in the sport, which will include nutrition, equipment, apparel, and more. The expo will also have competitions like arm wrestling, mix martial arts, and power lifting.
