Despite the rising temperatures, running enthusiasts in India have a lot to look forward to this April. From major city marathons across different parts of India, to several charity runs and even an adventurous ultra, here’s a list of some of the most exciting running events scheduled for this month.
Sandakphu 70 Mile Himalayan Race – April 9
Organized by The Windchasers, this 70-mile race course takes competitors across a wide variety of terrains and includes approximately 3,636 meters of ascents and descents over four days. Runners will tackle cobblestones, gravel, loose rocks, hard packed earth and even semi-paved paths during the event, which is a fully supported race. Stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range and other towering peaks including Makalu, Lhotse and the great Mt. Everest keep you company, even as Himalayan hospitality makes each day’s run worth your while.
Goa Going Pink Run – April 17
Goa is going pink to support awareness for women’s fitness and breast cancer. The first ever Goa Going Pink run will be organised exclusively for women runners and the event aims to encourage women to take health and fitness more seriously. Goa Going Pink is a running event under Pinkathon’s umbrella, and is aiming to make an impact on women getting them to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The first edition in Goa will be held at the Miramar Circle near Panaji city on Sunday, April 17, 2016. “Running, as a fitness medium, addresses most of the top ten ways to help prevent diseases, including breast cancer,” said Milind Soman, mobiefit’s running icon, Pinkathon Ambassador and a key member of the organising team.
Dehradun Half Marathon – April 24
Capital of Uttarakhand, Dehradun, known for its beautiful scenery lying between two of India’s greatest rivers Ganga and Yamuna, will host the second edition of the Dehradun Half Marathon, one of the most scenic running events in the country. In order to generate interest in the race and give runners some practice ground, the organizers Thrill Zone also organized promo runs as a lead-up to the event in March. The final event will comprise a half marathon (21.1 Km), a 5K (open and student category) as well as a Challenge Run for the Visually Challenged.
Nirbhaya Midnight Marathon – April 30
To spread the message of women health, safety and education, Assist HELP Foundation dedicates the Nirbhaya Midnight Marathon to all women in the country. The event is touted to the biggest midnight race in Bengaluru with over 20,000 participants. The initiative, which was launched by Dr. Kiran Bedi last October, comprises a full and half marathon, as well as a 10K run, a 5K Fun Run and a Corporate Run. All races begin and end at KTPO, Whitefield, Bengaluru.
