So you have started running and want to dip your toes in competitive waters. You’ve come to the right place. AIESEC’s 2015 edition of the MADathon – Making A Difference marathon, will be held on June 14 at Island Grounds in Chennai. The race will host 4 categories – 21Km; 10Km, 5Km and 3Km – so that all levels of runners can participate. Registration are open and runners can sign-up here. All 4 events have the same registration fee and all runners will be given a running T-shirt, bib (unfortunately, there’s no timing chip), a finisher’s medal, certificate and a refreshment box.
At one of the most picturesque running events in the country, the Ladakh Marathon deserves a special mention. However, only the most experienced and fit runners can hope to overcome this steep challenge.
Race day consists of four races – a 7KM race that still deigns peak good physical condition thanks to it being run at 11,500ft; a Half Marathon that takes you through the town of Leh and its outskirts and includes a loop that starts at the Shanti Stupa; the Marathon, the world’s highest, begins and ends in Leh taking you through the stunning Valley and over the Indus River; and the Khardungla Challenge, a 72km ultramarathon for the most elite runners, going uphill all the way to the Khardung La (17,618ft) along the world’s highest motorable road, with stunning views of the East Karakoram mountains of Ladakh. Registrations for the beautiful Cherra Marathon are still open, but the deadline is close. The last date to enter the July 15 race is June 12 and you can get registration details for the event here.
Fit I Am TAD
This event will bring together members of running, swimming and cycling communities and will provide a platform for Bangaloreans who wish to compete or just have fun with other fitness enthusiasts. The event will comprise of the following categories: Triathlon Competitive — Swim 200m, Cycle 10K, Run 5K; Maja Tri — Swim 50m, Cycle 5K, Run 2.5K, Aquathlon — Swim 50m, Run 2.5K, and Duathlon — Cycle 10K, Run 5K. If you fancy yourself a bit of a summer holiday and want to combine it with a marathon, then the Wales Marathon on July 5 is a great fit. Entries for the half marathon and marathon categories are still open. This year’s edition has a 10K run as well for enthusiasts, which is an ideal start for beginners.
Closer to India, the Pattaya Marathon will take place on July 19. You can start the registration process here and considering the easier Visa requirements for Indians in Thailand, this would be a great place to experience an international marathon. The event will have three categories – a 10K run, a half marathon and the marathon.
