The Vadodara International Half Marathon, organized to provide a platform for a wide cross section of citizens of all ages and levels of skill. The Vadodara International Half Marathon will have its 5th edition in 2016. The VIHM is a multi distance athletic event with opportunities for amateurs and professionals alike. The marathon is affiliated to the Association of International Marathons Distance Races.
Currently scheduled to be held on February 7, 2016, this is the largest international half marathon in Gujarat. The 5th Edition will incorporate the participation of runners from the neighbouring towns and cities of Surat, Anand, Halol, Bharuch, Ankhleshwar, Padra and Jambusar. Besides runners from Gujarat, the marathon will invite professional participants from across the country, and the pro international category for both men and women will have international runners vying for glory.
The VIHM features a half marathon (21.1 Km), a 15K run and a 5k run with individual categories for men and women. Participants will have to register for each event separately. The registration fee for the half marathon is Rs 750. The 15K run has an entry fee of Rs 500, while the 5K can be entered by paying between 200 to 300. Expect a large turnout on race day as the 2015 edition saw over 43,000 runners in all categories. This year the total prize money has been increased to Rs 22.5 lakhs, so expect great competition in the eligible half marathon and 15K events.
Getting to Vadodara for the marathon
Vadodara is well connected to the rest of the country by domestic airlines with direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai. The nearest international airport is about 100 km away in Ahmedabad.
Vadodara Junction is known as the busiest railway station in the state, and fall on the arterial Mumbai-Delhi Western Railway Main Line. Premium trains like Shatabdi and Rajdhani stop over or start from Vadodara. Passenger Trains can take you to small villages and towns around Vadodara.
National Highway NH8 passes through Vadodara, so it has excellent road connectivity. There is an express highway to Ahmedabad, and highway travel is fairly speedy by road. Intercity Buses leave every 15 minutes to Ahmedabad.
