Organized by the Chennai Trekking Club, and one of the most popular running events in the southern part of India, the Chennai Iron Triathlon is back this year. The non-profit event comprises 4 challenging categories, each more gruelling than the others.
We start with an Olympic category which includes a 1.5K swim, 45K of cycling, and a 10K run. The categories only get tougher: The Half Iron sees participants finishing a 1.9K swim, 90K of cycling, and 21K running. The 3/4 Iron has a 2.9K swim, 135K of cycling, and 31K running, while the headline event is the Full Iron which is a 3.9K swim, 180K of cycling, and a full marathon or 42 km of running. Registrations have now been closed for the events.
The event is set in Kalpakkam, 15km south of Mahabalipuram with the running course being a mostly shaded 10.5K double loop and the cycling route set along scenic, peaceful state highways; the swimming section is completed in an open river. There are aid stations every 2.5 km to help the runners in cases of injury, or for general assistance.
