One of the longest running marathons in India, the Kallai Marathon, is all set for its 8th edition this year. Started by Sakthi Sports, in Kallakurichi to celebrate the innovative spirit of the city, the first Kallai Marathon was held in 2008, and saw thousands of runners from all across India compete. The 8th edition of the marathon is scheduled to be held on January 24 this year.
Kallai Marathon comprises the whole gamut of running categories. There’s a full marathon (42.2 Km), a half marathon (21.1 Km), a 7km run, a 5K and 1km fun run for children and beginners. Participants will have to register for each event separately. Registration is currently ongoing with January 14, 2016 as the last date. Registration details are available on the official site.
The registration fee for the full marathon is Rs 650, while the entry fee for the half marathon is Rs 550. Those who want to participate in the 7km run have to pay Rs 450 for registration and one can enter the 5K competitive run at a fee of Rs 350. The event also features 1km run for which the registration fees are Rs 250. All participants will receive a finisher’s medals & certificates. The winners of the marathon and half marathon get a 22carat gold medal as well. The total prize money for the event is a whopping Rs 5 lakh.
