Rajasthan’s only hill station, Mount Abu, sits on the state’s highest mountain at the south-western end of the Aravalli Hills. The ancient town is surrounded by the Mt Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, which provides sparkling green relief amidst the state’s sandy and dry vistas. In historic times, Mount Abu was leased by the The East-India Company and used as a sanatorium for troops.
Organized against this charming backdrop, the Mt Abu International Trail Marathon gives runners from all walks of life a chance to experience trail running in the mountains. In its 5th years now, the event was founded by distance-runner Lihas Trivedi, who has participated in the grueling Comrades Marathon among other prestigious races across the world. The 2016 edition will be held on March 20.
Managed by LS Sports, the event comprises three categories designed for runners of various proficiencies and age groups:
• Peace Run (3K): 7 years & above
• Student (10K): 10 years to 18 years
• Open Category (Half Marathon & 10K): Male; 18 years to 45 years
• Open Category (Half Marathon & 10K): Female; 18 years to 40 years
• Veteran Category (Half Marathon & 10K): Male; 45 years & above
• Veteran Category (Half Marathon & 10K): Female; 40 year & above
Registrations for all categories of the race are now open. Runners can opt for the Half Marathon at INR 800, the 10K at INR 500 and the 3K Dream Run for INR 200. These prices are valid till March 7, after which fees will be INR.1,000 for the Half Marathon and 700 for the 10K. No entries will be allowed after 14th March, 2016. Total prizes worth INR 3,50,000 are in store for participant who are looking to compete.
Trail runners will find themselves running past major landmarks including the famous Nakki Lake, the Tiger Path, an 8-9 kilometer stretch of jungle area, Arna Village, and Addhar Devi Temple among others. All races start and finish at Pandav Bhavan, the World Headquarters of Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation, who promote holistic wellness and meditation and are partners at this event.
