Whenever you start something new there are going to be challenges which your willpower and determination can help you overcome. Being persistent with any challenge will take you past the finish line.

Shahrzad Bhagvager, Mumbai-based runner and Mobiefit RUN user

Running 21 km at the Tata Mumbai Marathon is no joke, especially if you work a full-time job and are a family man. Mobiefit user and marathoner, Mumbai’s Shahrzad Bhagvager took up the challenge of running this marathon biggie and successfully completed it in 2 hours 10 minutes. What makes us feel proud is that Shahrzard he did so with by solely training with Mobiefit. Here’s the story behind this 30-year old runner’s journey from a TCS employee to a marathoner.

Since when have you been running and what inspired you first to run?

I took up running in 2013 after I watched the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. It sparked a fire in me and I researched intensively on Mr. Milkha Singh. It is ironic that we come to know of great men through films.

What keeps you going on a regular basis? Any particular person who inspires you?

When I take my child to the park and I see old people, physically handicapped and obese individuals running or partaking in any kind of physical activity, I ask myself ” If they can do it, what reason do I have not to?”

Is it difficult to maintain your daily routine with running?

It’s all about balance. I make sure to schedule time for running, as it is one of my priorities and the rest just falls into place.

What has your experience with Mobiefit been like? Can you say something about your favorite features and what makes the app stand out?

After trying multiple running apps I have finally settled for Mobiefit RUN. The app is special to me and I plan to stick with it for now. About the features, I find the Challenges Section really great where participants can participate in the monthly challenges and win prizes for completing it. Currently, I am following the Elite 21K Program with Milind Soman as my chosen trainer and I think it’s amazing how one app can provide a trainer, nutrition plan, and workout programs.

You ran the TMM 2018 this year. How was your experience?

I registered for the Half Marathon at the TMM 2018 and knew it wasn’t going to be an easy task. I trained with the Mobiefit 21K program and managed to complete the marathon in 2 hrs and 10 mins, which is my personal best so far.

  • SCMM 2017 – Half Marathon
  • Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon 2017
  • Adidas Uprising – 2015 and 2017 (10 km)
  • Puma Urban Stampede – 2015 and 2016 (10 km)
  • Indian Navy Marathon 2016 – 10 km and the list goes on…..

Is there a particular marathon or run that you want to achieve? What’s your ultimate marathon goal?

My goal for 2018 is to train for a Full Marathon and complete the TMM 2019 Full Marathon under 4 hours.

Is there a specific diet that you follow?

I am personally not that strict about my diet but make it a point to avoid alcohol and smoking.

Where in Mumbai do you run?

I am not a part of any running clubs, so I venture out on my own. Carter Road and Bandra Band Stand are my go-to zones for running.
