Sushmita Sen

Former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen is known for kicking social stigmas in the butt. At 42 years old, Sushmita Sen is a single mother of two, Alisah and Renee, who also regularly join her in her fitness regime. Though Sushmita is gifted with a naturally athletic physique, she follows a very vigorous training and puts in a lot of effort into maintaining a strong body.

Her go-to moves: Sushmita dabbles in everything from calisthenics to pilates! She recently posted a video of her doing a series of punches for a super core workout.

Lara Dutta

Miss Universe 2000, Lara Dutta firmly believes that there are no shortcuts for a healthy body. So much so, that she didn’t stop working out even during her pregnancy and simply modified her exercise routine to suit her condition. She even lost her post-partum weight as quickly as she could with regular workouts after the birth of her daughter Saira, with husband and tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi. She religiously works out for an hour every five days in a week.

Her go-to moves: Yoga has been Lara’s mantra for the past 12 years however, she also hits the gym for some cardio and strength training.

Mary Kom

Five-time boxing championship Mary Kom believes that adversities are no reason to put your dreams on hold. Working past several hurdles, Mary Kom has carved a niche for herself in the world of boxing, a sport that is predominately dominated by men. Married to footballer Karung Onkholer, together they have 3 sons: twins Rechungvar and Khupneivar and third son Prince Chungthanglen. Amidst rumors of Kom bidding farewell from the world of boxing after the birth of her third child in 2013, Kom shut everyone up by winning the first place at the Asian Games  2014. She also won the first place in 2017 Asian Women’s Championships and 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Her go-to moves: Besides her main sport, Kom’s daily workout comprises of a 14 km run followed by stretching, skipping and floor exercises. She then moves to shadow boxing followed by a session on the punching bag and speed bag.

Malaika Arora

Malaika Arora has been ruling the roster of fit moms in India for a long time now. At 44, Malaika is the mother to Arhaan and follows a strict exercise and diet routine. She strongly emphasizes the importance of being fit, maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle to achieve a long, hearty and healthy life. “I love my fitness routine and I follow it religiously. Be it yoga, pilates or working out at the gym, I enjoy all kinds of fitness activities,” she said in an interview with DNA magazine.

Her go-to moves: Malaika starts her day with a glass of warm water mixed with lemon and honey. For her workouts, she does 20-minutes of cardio or power walk, followed by her strength training session. But she doesn’t restrict her self to this. On days when she’s not working out, she does swimming, kickboxing or pilates.

Kareena Kapoor

And how can we not mention Bebo a.k.a. Kareena Kapoor! She gave everyone fitness goals by not only shedding 12 kilos after giving birth to Taimur but also getting into a killer shape. Her personal coach and celebrity trainer, Namrata Purohit says that Kareena is a “fitness freak” at heart and does a 45- minute session when she’s in town. But post-pregnancy Kareena was sensible enough to not try out any crash dieting or fitness hacks. “My aim is not just to lose the weight I had put on. I don’t want to do it overnight. It may take longer, but I want to feel light, happy and energetic throughout the process. And that is important,” she says.

Her go-to moves: According to Purohit, Kareena’s routine, which helped her get the toned body she flaunts now, includes, full body workouts (mostly Pilates inspired) with the Cadillac, ladder barrels and the jump board.

Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty recalls the time when she was “fat-shamed” for her post-partum weight after the birth of Viaan, and didn’t venture out of her house for 5-months. She recently sympathized with actress Kareena Kapoor, after a similar incident with her. She said in an interview, “I can understand that emotion (of being judged), especially as an actress and someone who has been synonymous with having a good body and (being into) fitness.” And no kidding, Shilpa has been an advocate for Yoga and has recently launched the ‘Shilpa Shetty Wellness Series’, sharing her workout and diet routine to subscribers. The actress has previously shared her diet secrets in a book titled, ‘The Great Indian Diet’, which was co-authored by nutrition and fitness expert Luke Coutinho. Prior to that Shilpa also broke new grounds when she released a yoga DVD back in 2008.

Her go-to moves: Shilpa’s favorite yoga asanas include Surya Namaskar, Vrikshasana, Marjariasana, Padahastasana and Dhanurasana. Apart from yoga, Shilpa also adds cardio and strength training to her routine.

Lisa Haydon

“I exercise because it makes me feel good… looking good as a result is an added bonus.”A few follow the philosophy of model and actress Lisa Haydon, and why not? She looked like a million bucks during pregnancy and even more so in her recent holiday pictures after the birth of baby Zack. Growing up skinny (and often being bullied because of this), putting on weight was something new to Lisa. But in a single year, Lisa has managed to go from a pre-pregnancy body, to mildly pregnant to the pre-pregnancy body again. How? Lisa casually retorts, “I just carry my child (Zack) around. That’s a lot of work. Even if he’s in the baby carrier, I carry him downstairs, get upstairs. I carry him when he cries. I don’t get that much time to exercise. I occasionally sit in the yoga session when he’s napping. And post-pregnancy I haven’t really worked much. I go for a spin class sometimes or just walk everywhere I go.”

Her go-to move: Lisa likes to maintain a lean physique, so she doesn’t lift much. Instead, she does Pilates, yoga or goes for 5-10 km run.

Mandira Bedi

Mandira Bedi is all of 45 years and looks amazing as the years go by. But she didn’t always have it easy, especially after she gained some weight during pregnancy. ” I got pregnant when I was 38. During my pregnancy, I gained 22kg when the normal spectrum is between 8-13 kg. That’s when one of my co-actors advised me that I should start losing weight within the first seven to eight months. Else, my body would get used to the excess weight and it will get more difficult to lose it.” That was the starting point for her to not just lose weight but to get stronger. She follows a strict diet besides being committed to her workout routine.

Her go-to move: Mandira spends a total of 10:30 minute per set and does 6 sets in every session. She prefers home cooked meals and starts her day with a glass of milk.

Karishma Kapoor

Karishma Kapoor has never been out of shape. She was the poster girl of 90’s cinema in Bollywood and was aptly so with her coquettish looks and fit physique. However, she was out of the limelight after her marriage to and having two beautiful children, Samaira and Kiaan. But pregnancy did come with a lot of weight gain and this Karishma says was a herculean task. ” I was watching over my diet, giving up sugar, avoiding pastries and cakes, which are my weakness! But I think running behind the kids is what actually helped me get back in shape,” she adds jokingly. But what keeps this diva looking ever-so-gorgeous? Karishma keeps a watch on what goes into her body and follows a detox diet once every month. Besides this, she also never misses her workouts at the gym or at home.

Her go-to move: Karishma loves to swim and also fits in yoga in her daily schedule. Otherwise, she usually does a weight routine about 3 to 4 times in a week.
