Usually the Mobile World Congress is the place to see the world’s latest smartphones, but it’s not just about phones for Samsung this year. The world’s largest smartphone company has announced a Iofit Smart Show with an in-built tracking mechanism for workouts. The Iofit Smart Shoe will be launched globally at MWC that begins next week, February 22.
Iofit has been developed by startup Salted Venture who collaborated with the Korean electronics giant to make the shoe. It’s expected to launch along side the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones at MWC in Barcelona, and could be the first of many such sports-oriented gadgets from Samsung this year.
We’ve seen smart shoes in the past, but what sets Iofit apart is its versatility.According to the official website Iofit will be released in two flavours – one favouring exercises and workouts, while the other is specifically desined for golfin. The former will supposedly improve workout efficiency, help injury prevention, and improve exercise posture by alerting users in a smartphone app. The version meant for golfing aims to improve swing posture, weight shift, and club head speed, by showing golfers this data in the app.
Iofit features embedded pressure sensors and an accelerometer, which gather data about the user’s balance and posture during different workouts. The companion Smart Coaching app will give the user a quick overview of their workout, and a masterclass from trainers in the form of videos. With the app, one can even match their recorded videos with others or with themselves for before and after views. Side-by-side video evaluation is also possible with the Iofit app.
A Verge report says the fitness-oriented shoe will be priced at $199 (roughly Rs. 13,600), while a gold version of the shoe will also be available at $259 (roughly Rs. 17,700). However, there’s no information on when the smart shoes will hit the market.
