Is your workplace all about cakes to mark celebrations such as birthdays or farewells or to mark some milestone? Well, you may want to contact your HR to change that policy. A BBC report says the workplace or office ‘cake culture’ is putting your health at risk.
While the study was restricted to British workplaces, Nigel Hunt, a professor from the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, said the ‘cake culture’ is helping obesity and dental problems take momentum.
“For many people the workplace is now the primary site of their sugar intake and is contributing to the current obesity epidemic and poor oral health,” the report quotes Hunt saying.
Additionally, the research says that the ‘cake culture’ is not helping people who are trying to cut desserts from their daily lives in a bid to lose weight.
“Cake culture also poses difficulties for those who are trying their hardest to lose weight or become healthier – how many of us have begun such diets only to cave in to the temptation of the doughnuts, cookies or the triple chocolate biscuits?” Hunt added.
